Using the Samsung SDC-435 video camera for astronomy

Image of the Trapezium with an autoguided 5", f/10 Maksutov

This image was obtained with the camera AGC set to LOW and frame accumulation to 256. The camera was autoguided with a 70mm, F 700mm refractor. DVD was recorded at high quality. VOB Frame Extractor was used to extract the BMP files from the DVD. Dark frames were scaled with Dark Frame Scaler and the BMPs were stacked in Registax.

Images with an autoguided 80mm, f/5 Apochromatic Refractor

These images were obtained with the camera AGC setting on LOW. In this mode, the image builds up gradually and persists. This mode is intolerant of any drift and the autoguiding was essential. A light-pollution filter was used. DVD was recorded at high quality at integration levels of 64 frames, 128 frames and 512 frames. VOB Frame Extractor was used to extract the BMP files from the DVD. Dark frames were scaled with Dark Frame Scaler and the BMPs were stacked in Registax. The final 3 images were blended in Flexible Image Combine and Photoshop.
